The winner of the annual CCRA Chili Challenge will have her name engraved on the fabled Chili Chalice joining past winners in chili immortality.
It is rumored that the Chili Chairman discovered the Chili Chalice after suffering intense chili-fueled hallucinations brought on by 4-day road trip that began on a Tuesday with a Chili Con Carne from Washington, D.C.'s Ben's Chili Bowl and ended on a Friday with a Frito Chili Pie with cheese from Austin's Texas Chili Parlor interspersed with several 5-Ways from Alexandria's Hard Times Cafe and Cincinnati's Skyline Chili.
Upon eating the last fateful chili-enriched frito, the Chili Chairman stumbled into the Austin night only to reemerge days later in Philadelphia outside CCRA's office holding the gleaming-white Chili Chalice.
Refusing to speak of his whereabouts during his disappearance or where the Chili Chalice was found, the Chili Chairman said only one thing - "Center City shall have Chili and this Chalice shall bear the names of our Chili Champions!!!"
And so the tradition of the CCRA Chili Challenge began.
Past Chili Champions include the following lucky few:
2008 - Chris Sado, "Kenso Red"
2009 - Adam Schneider, "Adam's No Name Chili"
2010 - Craig Morrison, "Bullrider's Chili"
2011 - Eric Cantor, "Rowhouse Red Vegetarian Chili"
Do you have the cumin to join them on the Chili Chalice?
